COUNTRY OVERVIEW

Guatemala faces several challenges in terms of coexistence and conflict resolution, especially due to its ethnic, social and political context. Violence, inequality and lack of social cohesion are persistent problems affecting its communities. In this context, sport emerges as a key tool to promote integration, mutual respect and collaboration between different groups.

In collaboration with the National Council for Sport, Physical Education and Recreation (CONADER), training was developed as a strategy to ensure that physical activity becomes part of the general culture of Guatemalan society.

In Guatemala, the workshops for leaders, teachers and coaches focused on violence prevention and conflict resolution. The learning process was developed based on the experience of the different organisations that are part of Guatemala's national sports system.

The documents developed in Colombia were adapted for the use and context of Guatemala.

We invite you to have a look at the following teaching and learning material, which was created by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and our partner organizations in Guatemala.
