COUNTRY OVERVIEW

Sport for Development (S4D) strengthens the capacities of governmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as regional and national stakeholders, to foster youth development and social cohesion in the Western Balkans.

In Serbia, two S4D training modules have been developed with the National Association of Youth Workers (NAPOR), aimed at equipping youth workers with sport pedagogical skills and methods tailored to their professional needs. These modules have been instrumental in enhancing the capacity of local youth workers to engage effectively with young people through sport-based activities.

S4D also fosters regional cooperation and reconciliation through joint initiatives such as the S4D Summer Camps, organised with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO). These camps provide young people with opportunities to engage in dialogue on gender equality, peacebuilding, and social inclusion.

Additionally, the S4D Youth Ambassadors Programme empowers young leaders to drive social change, using sport to inspire cooperation, gender equality and mutual understanding.Ambassadors from Serbia have become advocates for positive social change in their communities, leveraging their influence to create more inclusive spaces for youth.

Through these initiatives, S4D contributes to building stronger, more connected communities across Serbia, while fostering deeper regional cooperation.

The local sport for development nets (L-S4D-Nets) approach in the Western Balkan region is described in an interactive roadmap. The aim of this publication is to present the approach and to capture the main learnings. The roadmap also serves as a practical and hands on working aid that supports other sport for development programmes in shaping their own local networking activities.
